Who Reads Newest on the Net?
29 Nov, 2007 | Written by Fred | under Newest On The Net
Hello all,
I am very happy with how this blog is growing. I just hit 200 RSS subscribers and broke through Technorati’s 25,000 ranking. However, the anonymity of the community here is distracting.
My stats show that I have a lot of readers. My feedburner account shows that I have a lot of subscribers. But, I only know a very small percentage of you.
If you are a reader and/or a subscriber to Newest on the Net, please leave a comment in this post. I would love to know who you are. I would love to get to know you better.

Thanks for leaving a comment Fab. I read you too!! Blogging is a cool web2.0 tool, but it is hard to clearly define communities.

I’m a regular … RSS subscriber and reader. Not sure if I remember how I found you, but we touch the same topics and I like to link to posts of similar topic to give my own posts some depth and context. Have linked before and will certainly continue. Keep up the good work. I enjoy NOTN.

Hi Fred,
I recently started subscribing after I read your RSS subscriber series.
I find your content – especially your resource posts – well worth keeping tabs on.
And good for trackbacks.
Regards,
Mark

This is a great idea! I often ask peeps how they find me. I just started subscribing a week or two ago. Not sure how I found you, but more than likely via bloggingzoom or a link from there to someone else to you. You know how that goes!
I’ve been online since basic hand-coding around 1994 or so. I’ve struggled because I have tons of classic, rare early punk and famous rockers (Stones, Kiss, Led Zep), but known for my punk photos. Plus I tell tons of stories and peeps tell me to do many books.
I haven’t been able to effectively design a site nor bring in the traffic my rep and photos deserve. Then I found Wordpress, Joomla and BANS. I realized with enough traffic, I could sell other things than my expensive, museum quality limited edition print, like advertisers and products. What a concept: let someone else deal with customers, their products and shipping! Love it!
It’s going to take some time, because I want to only promote those products I recommend. Plus so much to learn and implement re SEO/SEM, smo, affiliates, yadda yadda.
The worst part is I sold photos on someone’s eBay store and he kept my earnings (I paid eBay fees, printing and shipping). He also kept money I earned working for him. So money is tight, to put it politely.
I am also finishing my first solo photo book, “Punk Pioneers” from Rizzoli/Universe. I am supposed to be working on the text at this very minute.
When I send off the text, I’m gonna go back to building many stores and blogs. I’m so excited I can’t focus on anything else.
I really appreciate the many thoughtful, helpful blogs, cos quite frankly, I was so lost trying to figure out how to get my photos out into the world. I never imagined I would finally be able to make money by promoting the very items, services, whatever I have always promoted.
Everyone always says I should be in sales and/or marketing (and writing). I can finally use my many talents and skills. G-d willing, I can raise enough money via my photos this month to focus on the stores.
I wish I could have gotten it together this summer, as was my plan. But struggling to financially survive each day has been quite a challenge. My photos are in all the major books, docs, mags on early punk. But someone I trusted really destroyed my momentum and years of work.
The blogging community has literally saved my life, given me so much direction and support. I in turn forward links and articles to many, but not as much as when I can focus on it, more in the new year.
So here’s to another fork in the road, with a clear path thanks to peeps like you!

Hey Fred –
Aside from being Becca’s friend, I spend my days thinking about how to better communicate with 16 year-old creative-types. They are incredibly tech-savvy and sophisticated, and it’s my job to stay a step ahead of them (or, at the very least to try to keep up). I’m particularly interested in new developments in social networking. Your blog is a great…thanks for doing it!

Hi Fred,
I read you. I’m always afraid to ask these questions even though I’m aware we should involve our readers. Sometimes the one brave soul won’t get the ball rolling so you end up talking to yourself!
