Newest on the Net - The First 20 Days

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Newest on the Net is now 20 days old. I started this blog on September 10. I am happy with the first 20 days, but have a long way to go. This week I am on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am using this week to briefly think about where I have been over the last 20 days and where I hope to take this blog over the next year.

Subcribers:

The first 20 days have been a mixed bag for signing up RSS subscribers. After 20 days I am up to 49 subscribers. RSS subscribers are very important to me. And increasing RSS subscribers over the next year is my number one priority.

Traffic:

I have received a good amount of traffic over my first 20 days. I have had 6,240 unique visitors, 8,479 visits, and 26,779 page views. I am pretty happy with these numbers.

Most Popular Posts:

I think that it is very important to reflect on your most popular posts. These posts give hints as to what readers are interested in. Bloggers must write for their readers and not for themselves. I hope that I always remember this. If there are topics that you would like me to cover please leave a comment.

Here were my most popular posts over the first 20 days:

Conclusion:

All-in-all I am very pleased with my first twenty days. However, I really hope that I can double my RSS subscribers over the next 20 days.

I think they are really great stats, keep up the good work. I am starting a new blog soon and I hope my stats are that good after the first 3 weeks!

What kind of research did you do before starting this blog?

@Mandy - Thanks for encouraging me to keep this up. I think that the most important thing to focus on when starting a new blog is to clearly know what the purpose of your blog is going to be. Make sure that you know what you are going to write about. I also think that it is good to write your first 10 posts before you publish your first. That way you can make sure that you have enough to get you through your first 2 weeks.

You asked about the research that I did before starting this blog. Well, this is my second blog. My first in MMO Explorer at http://mmoexplorer.com. So, that gave me my knowledge of blogging.

@dog08 - Thanks dog. I am pretty happy with that traffic.

Those are really interesting stats. My blog is literally just a few days older than yours and a few days ago I posted my one month stats. In 30 days I got around half the traffic that you did, but double the RSS subscribers. It would be worth analysing your traffic to see where it has come from and seeing if you can do more to convert first time visitors into subscribers.

You already have a huge button which is great, but perhaps try adding something at the end of your posts which says something along the lines of “if you liked this post, please consider subscribing”. There’s another plugin that allows you to put an extra block on your blog for first time visitors but I haven’t implemented that yet. I think it’s called “What Would Seth Godin Do”? or something like that…
