I've examined my WordPress blog (ChaosTheory theme) and I too cannot find the mentioned services area.

After checking the Help service on WP.org my conclusion is that WP 2.1 automatically pings 'Pingomatic' for every posting, and does not allow the option to amend pinging capabilities as this post suggests.

This is just my conclusion and I would welcome more experienced commentors providing a more informed answer.

Cheers!

Hi Fred,

I ping on some of my blogs and others I don't. Still haven't found a good reason for either. Great tutorial and I stumbled it too.

In the past I have had a problem where one ping service, I forget which one, simply wasn't responding and that locked up my Wordpress admin for quite a long time while it tried to ping it.
It was some time ago and may be sorted now but that Feedburner option seems interesting so I am going to give that whirl.

Dean,

I have heard the same thing pinging services slowing down posts. I think that people should not include to many sites to ping.

Thanks for the advice about Feedburner's pinging service. I am going to check it out right now.
