If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
A new version of WordPress is available! That’s right, you might have seen this message when you logged into your WordPress dashboard. WordPress 2.3.2 is ready for downloading. I usually upgrade my WordPress install after Fantasico has updated its software. I don’t like to mess around with my install so I always use Fantastico through my cpanel dashboard.
What is in WordPress 2.3.2?
WordPress 2.3.2 contains a major security fix. WordPress has fixed a bug that allowed Internet users to see posts that you had saved in your drafts folder. I noticed this bug a couple of months back. I would see a draft post show up on an RSS feed. Since you don’t want anyone to see what your future posts are going to be, you should definitely install this latest release.
December 26th, 2007 — Internet Marketing
Every now and then I come across a website on Internet marketing that blows me away. First there was the Thirty Day Challenge. After participating in the Thirty Day Challenge, I did not think that I would come across anything that compared to this free Internet marketing course. Well, that all changed in the last two weeks when I read make money online, make money online blogging, and Internet marketing. Grizzly, Vic and Court truly are the three men of Internet marketing.
These three blogs have reinvigorated me with the desire to try to make money from niche blogs. Since I have learned so much from Grizzly, Vic and Court, I just knew that you would love them too.
These three bloggers are sharing all of their secrets for making money online. It seems like they are competing with each other for who can share the most. However, each does it with their own style and experiences. It is also great to see these three bloggers commenting on each others’ blogs. The three of them are really working together to educate people on Internet marketing.

Courtney has recently written the best internet marketing article of 2007. In this article Court describes how to target a specific keyword and take the number one position in Google’s search engine results pages. You have to read this article.
Well, I hope that you like these articles. I have been devouring them as fast as I can read them. I am reading through Grizzly’s payday loans series a second time through right now. I am also rereading Court’s keyword sniping article again tomorrow.

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone had a great Christmas morning. It was great seeing my kids so excited. Having young children makes Christmas a new experience again. I love it.
December 23rd, 2007 — Blogging
While most of you already know what a blog is, I thought it would be fun to examine what is a blog? Or put another way, what makes a blog a blog?
When I sat down to write out my 2008 blogging goals for Newest on the Net, it hit me that one of my primary goals is to help new bloggers. Therefore, it is important to start at the beginning.
What is a blog?
Blog is short for weblog. I think that the following factors highlight what makes a blog a blog.
- Articles arranged in chronological order with the most recent articles listed first
- Always changing content with the post of new articles
- The ability for readers to comment on articles and on other peoples’ comments
There might be a lot of other characteristics, but to me this is what sets a blog apart from other media.
Some people say that blogs are personal in nature. At one point this might have been true, but now it is just a type of medium that publishers use to communicate. Traditionally, blogs have always implied written communication, but that is changing now too. More and more bloggers are incorporating audio and video into their blogs.
Here are have other bloggers defined a blog:
Daren Rowse from Problogger defines a blog as,
a blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.
Michael Arrington from TechCrunch states,
I believe the term “blog” means more than an online journal. I believe a blog is a conversation. People go to blogs to read AND write, not just consume. We’ve allowed comments here on TechCrunch since it started.
In other words, Michael agrees that comments are a defining characteristic of blogs.
Meg from Dipping Into the Blogpond states,
Essentially, the word “blog” is short for “web log”. Entries (also called “posts”) are displayed in reverse chronological order, with the most recent entry being displayed first (at the top of the page).
How would you describe, what is a blog?
December 23rd, 2007 — Newest On The Net
2007 has been a great year for Newest on the Net. Despite only being launched in September, I have achieved some great success so far. Now I need to leverage this early success to achieve some specific goals for 2008.
Content Goals: I need to write content that entertains and helps my readers. These will be my content goals for 2008.
1. Blogging - I want to focus my blogging advice to help new bloggers. I want to become a go to source for people looking for help with blogging and starting a WordPress blog. I think that I have done a pretty good job on this, but I need to write with more focus on beginning bloggers. Now don’t get me wrong, I am still going to write lots of articles for intermediate and advanced bloggers. However, I think that new bloggers need the most help.
2. Social Media - I want to continue to focus on how to use social media to grow your blog. I have had so much success with social media that I want to make sure that all bloggers are using it to help attract readers. In addition to writing about how to use social media, Newest on the Net will also discuss the latest in social media news.
3. Internet - I am fascinated by the Internet. I hope that you enjoy my articles about the newest on the net. I believe that this is what makes Newest on the Net different from other blogging blogs. In addition to providing blogging advice and social media advice, I enjoy sharing cool stuff around the net. Do you like these articles?
4. Newsletter - I want to create a monthly newsletter for Newest on the Net. This newsletter will look back at the biggest events that happened that month in the blogosphere and the Internet. Does this interest you? What would be of value to you?
Stats: While content is king, statistics are a way to measure the success of your content.
1. RSS subscribers - Since September, I have had around 250 people subscribe to my RSS feed. By this time next year, I hope to be at around 2,000 RSS subscribers. Increasing my RSS subscribers is my primary goal. I want to develop a large reader basis who doesn’t want to miss any of my articles. You please subscribe to Newest on the Net.
2. Daily page views - I want to average 4,000 daily page views by December 31, 2008.
3. Technorati rank - Newest on the Net currently has a Technorati rank of 17,000. By this time next year I hope to have broken through the 5,000 barrier.
4. Google page rank - I am currently at page rank 3. Hopefully, I will have a page rank 5 in a year.
5. Alexa rank - I am currently at 55,000. I hope that I can achieve an Alexa rank of 25,000.
Monetary Goals: Okay so far I have only made $14.00 from Newest on the Net. I really hope that I can be making around $1,000 per month by the end of next year. This is the goal that I feel least sure about. I really have no plan to get there. I have never promoted this blog as a monetary success. Maybe you readers can give me some advice for achieving this goal.
