October 22nd, 2007 — Social Bookmarking, Social Networking, stumbleupon
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I would like to say that I thought of this all on my own, but I can’t. Mohsin from Blogging Bits had a Free Backlink Giveaway on Saturday requesting that Bloggers submit their best article to Blogging Bits and he would link to their article. Please check out the awesome list of articles that were submitted.
Well, now it is my turn, but with a little wrinkle.
My Goal: To create the ultimate list of articles about StumbleUpon. StumbleUpon is my favorite social bookmarking site. It is a tremendously easy bookmarking tool and an great social site. I think that StumbleUpon has some of the best social features of any site. You can see what sites your friends like, send articles to your friends and send traffic to well deserving content.
How To Enter: There are two ways to enter and get a backlink.
- Leave a comment listing one or more articles about StumbleUpon that you have written.
- Leave a comment listing two or more articles about StumbleUpon that you have really enjoyed.
What You Get: If you participate, you get the following,
- A free backlink to your site or articles
- A great list of articles about StumbleUpon
Deadline: Sunday October 28, 2007
Please note that I reserve the right not to post to any spam sites or sites containing inappropriate material.
Update: Please note that I am looking for articles about StumbleUpon, not articles that have been submitted to StumbleUpon. As an attorney, I am embarrassed that I created this confusion.

J.K. Rowling has confirmed that Dumbledore, Harry Potter’s mentor, is gay. What does this have to do with online trends, social media or blogging? Well, not much. However, enlightened about Dumbledore’s sexuality while checking out IceRocket’s Top News Story section and found out that this is the most discussed news story in the blogosphere.
I recommend that you check out IceRocket. TheTop News Story section is really interesting. You can find some really cool stories and discover new things that are happening online. If you are having writer’s block or just want to brainstorm, I am sure that you can find some things to blog about.

The following is a guest post from Glenn Nicholas from PublicityShip. Thank you very much for writing this guest article.

A lot of marketers will tell you that including testimonials from satisfied clients can help build trust and improve online conversion rates. But if you’ve been using testimonials, you’ll know just how much work it can be to collect and publish them. And that its all too easy for a few testimonials to appear over and over. This is missing an opportunity with your repeat readers (your most valuable readers).
Jodi Diehl of SunFrogServices has made the task of gathering, managing and displaying testimonials so much easier through her WP-Testimonials plugin. And not only that, she has randomized the display of testimonials, which makes your testimonials fresh for repeat visitors. Simple and effective.
The best way to learn about Jodi’s plugin is to see it in action on her site at WP-Testimonials. Look at the testimonial in the sidebar, and notice how it changes to another testimonial when you read another page on her site (a new testimonial is selected at random each time a page is returned).
We use Jodi’s plugin on our own site at PublicityShip. We’ve extended her plugin in a few small ways, including a link to our full list of testimonials at the bottom of the widget. The testimonials were so useful we introduced a second sidebar, as we didn’t want the testimonials to be lost ‘below the fold’.
One of the best aspect’s of the widget is the use of a simple form to enter the testimonial details - short version for the sidebar widget, longer version for your /testimonials page, and client name, organization and web address. All you do is enter the details using this form, and from there on the new testimonial starts to appear along with your existing testimonials.
Note: this is a new plugin, and installation may require a few tweaks - see the comments for the plugin if you have trouble. if you want to use this plugin with Wordpress 2.3, you will need to include this fix until the core plugin is updated.
Replace this line in wp-testimonials.php:
require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php’);
to this:
if( file_exists( ABSPATH . ‘wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php’ ))
require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php‘);
else
require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php’);

The purpose of this post is to create an index of the free blogging platforms that are available on the Internet.
I have used many of these free blogging platforms to create quick and dirty affiliate marketing sites. I find that Google really likes several of these platforms, for example Sampa. Any time I create a Sampa page, I have very good luck in getting ranked very high in Google for the keywords that I am targeting.
While I don’t recommend that you use these platforms for your primaryblogs (always own your domain names), they are great for affiliate marketing and niche marketing sites.
Here is the Ultimate List of Free Blogging Platforms:
I am sure that I have missed many. Please leave a comment with the name of any that I have missed and I will add them to the list. I will also give you credit by linking to your blog.
